Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic since the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the ALCS.
Down three runs to one, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the forthcoming championship.
"It's incredible for our team, the city, Canada," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now slugged 23 October home runs, placing him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else anywhere that I'd choose in that spot other than Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the early in the series, remain the sole team yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it hurts" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but applauded their work throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.
The Blue Jays won the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
