The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
