Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Fitness Worries.

'Major setback' for the touring side as Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the ground during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left leg after the final ball that he bowled on Saturday.

The England team reported the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and was to take time off the field in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle in Sydney gets underway at the end of the week.

The visitors have previously lost strike bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and another paceman with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, taking just three wickets.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, then making 28 with the bat being one of only three teammates to get into double digits.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he came back on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of the fifth over, he delivered a variation to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the previous Test.
