Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande during Film Launch Prohibited from Singapore
A man from Australia who vaulted over a barricade and touched actress Ariana Grande has been expelled and banned from Singapore.
The individual, aged 26, was handed a penalty to nine days in detention for being a public nuisance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," Singaporean immigration authorities told Singaporean press.
He forced his way through camera crews and approached aggressively the celebrity, who was attending the Asian premier for the musical adaptation on the thirteenth of November. Co-star Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
The individual has a record of causing disturbances at events and high-profile gatherings, including jumping on stage at the pop star's Australian show in June this year.
The incident provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with numerous people claiming he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The singer has discussed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at her performance in Manchester in spring of 2017 killed over twenty people and affected hundreds.
In the legal process, the authorities learned he had made efforts to breach on the movie's debut twice, according to regional reports.
He then made a another effort to breach security. Protection personnel intercepted him and pinned him down.
Wen later posted recordings appreciating the celebrity for permitting his access and said he was "free."
Law enforcement detained him the next day and charged him with causing a disturbance, to which he confessed.
The Presiding Judge the magistrate was quoted by Channel News Asia as stating that he was looking for publicity, noting that he was wrong to think he would not face any penalties.
The singer has not commented on the situation.
The co-star mentioned the situation to NBC, stating that she "simply desired to ensure my colleague was secure."
"I think he didn't intend us danger, but you never know with such situations, and I sought to ensure that she was OK. That was my initial reaction," she said.
