The distinguished UK star Mirren, currently holder of an Oscar statuette, several BAFTA honors, Globes trophies, five Emmys, along with a Tony Award, is poised to add another esteemed prize to her shelf: the DeMille Golden Globe lifetime honor.

The actress, octogenarian, previously made a dame back in 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow in 2014, will receive the accolade during a presentation on the eighth of January, shortly before the main Golden Globes are held, within a ceremony promoted by the organization as Golden Eve.

This will also include the bestowal of the organization’s Carol Burnett prize for TV work, the recipient of which is still to be revealed. Last year’s winners were Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Mirren stands as a force of nature, and her professional journey is truly extraordinary,” said the organization’s president, the Globes’ leader. “Her transcendent performances and dedication to acting continue to inspire generations of artists and viewers as well. It is a profound honour to present her with the Cecil B DeMille award.”

Notable Roles

Mirren gained prominence in the 1970s with key roles on stage at London’s West End and with the RSC as well as in movies like O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

In the 1990s, her starring role in the crime series Prime Suspect increased her popularity further. Additional notable movies include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.

She won an Oscar for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie The Queen, a character she reprised during 2013 within The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play about the meetings between the queen and the PM the former PM, a role for which Mirren won a Tony during 2015.

Current and Forthcoming Appearances

• More recent films comprise Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, where she served as narrator.
• Her role in the Netflix adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and awards buzz is growing around her performance as a dying matriarch in Winslet’s initial directorial project, Goodbye June.
• In the coming year, Mirren will be seen portraying Patricia Highsmith in the drama by Anton Corbijn, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nominations will be declared on the eighth of December, featuring Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners likely to receive multiple nominations.
